Finalist in Still Life Painting Category in the International Artist Magazine- Oct/Nov edition 2019.
I graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 1987 in Fine Art and have been painting
on a part-time basis since. I exhibit in Scotland but have shown work in the Mall galleries with Discerning Eye and other Open Exhibitions in London.
My work falls into two main areas, landscapes depicting expansive skies and fleeting light conditions and small intimate still life studies which i paint from life.
Exploring places within Scotland that are mainly quiet and unpopulated connects with me and i often return back to the canvas with a sense of place and light rather than trying to capture it in its entirety.
I am more interested in how the wild skies or the calm sunrises make me feel and hope in some way to bring the viewer along on this solitary journey.
My Still life paintings are small studies of objects where the placement of light becomes paramount in the execution of my paintings. I enjoy capturing a little of the realism that sits staring back at me as the still life paintings take on a variety of meanings and personalities as i engage with them.
My paintings are mainly in Oil on prepared Canvas and Panels, using glazing techniques and other time honoured traditional ways of painting.
